Fast Vulnerability Assesment – School Buildings (Italy)

The activity involved the execution of non-destructive tests in order to characterize the materials. The check was carried out in the gyms of three schools in the Municipality of Venice: the “Rodari” school in Favaro Veneto, the “Stefani” school in Marghera and the Palazzetto dello Sport in Trivignano.

The tests carried out made it possible to identify the metal reinforcements in order to define the internal texture of the structural elements, evaluate the mechanical characteristics of the steel in place by evaluating the surface hardness of the same, correlating it to the breaking and yield stress. Through endoscopies it was possible to define the stratigraphy of the walls.

Hardness tests were also carried out on the metal profiles to determine the class they belong to,

For the horizontals, the tests carried out made it possible to define the stratigraphy of the element.

The characterization of the materials provided verified estimates for the building modeling and subsequent verifications
